Baltimore, Md. – The Long Island University men's and women's track and field teams were in Baltimore, Md. on Saturday for the Morgan State Legacy Meet. The Blackbirds saw a number of strong performances from both male and female athletes.
For the women, Senior Danay Spencer was third in the triple jump, leaping to a mark of 11.9 meters. Junior Torrie Saunders and sophomore Tricia Beckles were ninth and tenth in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking in at 1:04.89 and 1:05.11, respectively.
Junior Jazmin Waller took second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.29, while Saunders was sixth with a time of 14.5. Waller then claimed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.51.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Waller, Saunders, sophomore Amber Mitchell and senior Desiree Conley was eighth with a time 3:52.8.
On the men's side, senior Samuel Egadu came in ninth place in the 400-meter dash, clocking in at 48.13. Sophomore Rogers Kipruto took gold in the men's 5000-meter run, racing to a 15:23.99.
The men's 4x400-meter relay team of freshman Branden Arrington, junior Robert Barnes, junior Corryl Boyd and Egadu were second, clocking in at 3:12.29.
The track and field team is back in action April 28-30 at the Penn Relays. The event takes place at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pa.
