NEPTUNE, N.J. - Freshman Marisol Doglioli earned the first individual championship of her career, and the LIU Brooklyn women's golf team continued its impressive start to the spring season with a team title at the Monmouth Hawk Invitational on Sunday.
The Blackbirds fended off Siena by a single stroke to win its second team championship in as many tournaments this spring. LIU picked up a dominant 28-stroke victory at the season-opening Lonnie Barton Invite on Mar. 13.
Doglioli shot a final-round 80 to pick up medalist honors by three strokes over Victoria Nguyen of Siena. Doglioli led the 54-player field in par-4 scoring at 4.25, and registered field-highs in birdies (4) and pars (19) over 36 holes.
A transfer from Mount St. Mary's following the fall semester, Doglioli has been on a tear to start her LIU career with a second-place finish at the Lonnie Barton Invitational preceding this weekend's tournament win.
Sophomore Brianna Maynard improved on her first-round score by two strokes and finished in fourth place at 164, while classmate Cristina Felip tied for sixth at 166. Alice Boothroyd, another sophomore on LIU's roster, closed in a tie for 19th place while freshman Victoria Fagan shaved an impressive 12 shots off her first-round score and finished in a tie for 35th.
LIU Brooklyn returns to action on Friday, April 12 for a single-day event hosted by Columbia University at Spook Rock Golf Club in Suffern, N.Y.
