BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn men's soccer team faces No. 18 George Mason on Alumni Day this Sunday, Sept. 21 at 12:00 p.m. at LIU Field. Live stats and live video are available above.
ALUMNI DAY
The Blackbirds will host an Alumni Game at 9:30 a.m. before taking on the nationally-ranked Patriots. Former players from many different decades of the program will return to LIU Field to celebrate the rich, 81-year history of LIU Brooklyn men's soccer.
LAST TIME OUT
Senior forward Brice Merwine kept his scoring streak going, posting the only goal in a 3-1 loss to NJIT on Wednesday. Freshman Cole Palmer made his first start in goal and finished with three saves. Seven Blackbirds took shots on the day.
ABOUT THE BLACKBIRDS
With six total goals on the season, Merwine is now tied for third with three other players in the national rankings. He's also tied for fourth in the nation with 1.00 goals per game after scoring in the last four contests. Merwine is also tied for first in the Northeast Conference in goals and points per game and total points, and is first outright in total goals.
The Blackbirds are second in the NEC in total goals, third in the NEC in scoring offense and total points, and fourth in points per game.
ABOUT THE PATRIOTS
George Mason moved up four spots in the NSCAA Coaches' Poll this week to stand at No. 22. The Patriots are undefeated at 5-0, most recently defeating Hartwick at home, 1-0.
Timi Mulgrew is one of the four players in the country, including Merwine, with six goals on the season. He also has posted two assists for 14 points this season. Henning Dirks and Colton Amidon have each scored three times. Goalkeeper Stephen Kraus averages 0.21 goals against.
ALL-TIME SERIES
The Patriots will make their first trip ever to LIU Field on Sunday. The two teams have met once before, in 2012, in Fairfax, Va. George Mason won the match, 3-0.
