LORETTO, Pa. – The LIU Brooklyn men's soccer team had its nine game winning streak snapped on a snowy Sunday afternoon at Saint Francis University, as the home team would score a goal with just two seconds left in the game to take the 1-0 win. The loss was the first for LIU in over a month, as the Blackbirds move to 10-4-1 on the season, and 5-1 in Northeast Conference play.

The two teams were evenly matched throughout the contest, statistically or otherwise. Thought SFU out-shot LIU, 13-9, the Blackbirds had more corner kicks (5-2), and freshman Sam Ilin had four saves in net to SFU's two.

Neither team would score for the majority of the game. As the clock wound down in regulation, both teams would see an uptick in offensive effort in the last 20 minutes of play. The Blackbirds had four corner kicks in the final 15 minutes, and also had shots from Anthony Baltazar, Daniel Quiros Herrero and Marius Koss. The Red Flash didn't quite meet the same output as the game wound down, but when they did, they made it count.

In the last 30 seconds of regulation, the Blackbirds' defense cleared the ball, but SFU's back line sent it down the field on the right side for a last chance on net. SFU's Filip Burnett crossed it from the right sideline to the top of the 18. LIU had a crowd of defenders there, and one volleyed it out of harm's way, or so it seemed. Before the ball could touch the ground, the home team's Lucas Canineu would one-touch it from 25 yards out, on a rocket that sailed to the top right corner of the net. Saint Francis U. would take the 1-0 lead with just two seconds remaining in the contest.

The Blackbirds will look to bounce back from the loss next weekend, as they travel north to face off against Bryant, Sunday, October 28 at 1 p.m.
