MILFORD, CT --- The LIU Brooklyn men's golf team played their final event prior to the NEC Championships this past weekend in Milford, Connecticut. At the Sacred Heart Spring Classic, the Blackbirds placed sixth in a field of seven schools at Great River Golf Club.

Once again, junior Daniel Reale was the Blackbirds' leader in the single-day event with a round of 8-over (80) on the par 72 course. Reale finished in a tie for 17th, but was very consistent in his round with 10 pars and eight bogeys.

Junior George Helsby was a stroke behind, coming in with a 9-over 81 (T-21st) in his round and finished tied for the team lead with ten pars as well.

Freshman Manuel Sosa (11-over 83, T-29th) slotted third on the day, as he was tied for the tournament lead with three birdies in his round. Due to the birdies, Sosa played even par golf on par 5 holes in the event.

Senior Kyle Maihi  and freshman Jayden Brown rounded out the Blackbirds squad, each playing to a 13-over 85, which tied them both for 31st place out of 43 golfers.

As a team, the Blackbirds finished with a team round of 329, to put them at 41-over in the final standings. Host Sacred Heart won their event with a 21-over 309, which was four strokes ahead of St. Peter's in second place.

In two weeks time, LIU will head down to Daytona Beach, Florida for the 2018 NEC Championships from April 27-29.
