NEC MEN'S GOLF SATURDAY RESULTS
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. --- The LIU Brooklyn Men's Golf team showed a five-stroke improvement on Saturday in the second round, shooting a 310 in the 2018 Northeast Conference Championships. Though still in sixth place overall with a 49-over, 625 on the Hills Course at the LPGA International, the Blackbirds are now only a single stroke behind fifth place Bryant and only five behind fourth place. The nine-team field in Daytona Beach, Florida will tee off at 7:40 a.m. in Sunday's final round.
Junior Daniel Reale played four strokes better in the second round, to move into a tie for tenth place with a 2-over 74. He scored a 6-over 78 in the first round, now Reale stands at 8-over 152, only six paces behind the leaders at +2. He had three birdies and closed with five pars in the second round and shot +1 on both the front and back nines.
Freshmen Manuel Sosa shot a 4-over 76, following Friday's 81, to move up eight spots to a tie for 19th place. Sosa only had one birdie in the second round, but had a strong run of 10 pars over the last eleven holes.
Senior Kyle Maihi, who led the Blackbirds after day one with a 4-over 76, parred the first four holes on Saturday, but ended up with an 8-over 80, to slide back to a tied for 24th at 15-over.
Junior George Hensby shot his second straight round of 8-over 80, to place in 29th at 16-over for the championship, while freshman Jayden Brown made a great stride on day two with an 8-over 80, to move up to 38th place at 23-over heading into the final day.
Central Connecticut State continues to lead the Championship (16-over 592), with Robert Morris nine strokes behind in the nine-team field.
