Lenny Pitt returns for his sixth season on the Blackbirds’ sidelines. The Floral Park, N.Y., native handles a variety of tasks on the staff, including recruiting and team travel.
 
Prior to joining Ferry’s staff at LIU, Pitt spent three seasons as an assistant coach at SUNY Old Westbury under Bernard Tomlin. While at Old Westbury, Pitt played an instrumental role in in the Panthers’ success from 2002-04. In three seasons at Old Westbury, Pitt and the Panthers posted three winning seasons and earned a pair of postseason tournament bids.
 
The 2003-04 Old Westbury squad enjoyed the finest season in school history by closing the regular season with nine wins it its final 10 games to surge to a 19-9 record and earned a trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament. Included among the accomplishments were eight-straight conference wins to cap a 12-2 record in the Skyline Conference and secure the top seed in the league tournament. The 2002-03 squad went 16-12 overall and earned the No. 4 seed in the league tournament with an 11-3 mark before eventually earning an invitation to the ECAC N.Y./N.J. Metro Region postseason tournament. 
 
Pitt’s coaching career began with a stint as the assistant coach at Martin Van Buren High School in Queens Village, N.Y., from 1996-2001. An advocate of half-court man-to-man defense, he also coached the Running Rebels AAU squad from 1998-2001.
 
Pitt graduated from Adelphi University in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in economics and earned a master’s in sports management in 1996. Prior to getting into coaching, Pitt worked as a marketing and basketball operations intern for the New York Knicks during the 1995-96 season and has also worked as an account representative for IKON Office Solutions.
 
Pitt and his wife, Jen, currently reside in Floral Park, N.Y., with their son Ayden.
