Mark Calzonetti begins his third season as an assistant men's basketball coach at LIU Brooklyn after a successful two-year stint at Iona College. In his two years, he helped mentor the Gaels to a 50-20 record, the second-best two-season win total in the 70+-year history of the program.

Calzonetti played a key role in all facets of the Iona program including recruiting, advance scouting, practice and game planning. He coached four all-conference performers in two seasons including Mike Glover, Scott Machado, Kyle Smyth and Lamont Jones. The Gaels earned the MAAC regular season championship in 2012, posting a 15-3 conference mark to match the program record for MAAC victories.

No stranger to the Northeast Conference, Calzonetti spent 11 seasons at Monmouth before making the move to Iona.

At Monmouth, Calzonetti helped guide the Hawks to three Northeast Conference Tournament championships and three trips to the NCAA Tournament, while also claiming two NEC regular season titles. He was primarily responsible for handling the program's frontcourt players along with recruiting.

Calzonetti mentored several All-NEC and NEC All-Rookie Team members in his tenure with the Hawks including standout Blake Hamilton, the 2005 NEC Player of the Year, All-Met First Team and AP All-America honorable mention honoree. During the 2005-06 season, Monmouth won the NEC Championship as a No. 3 seed and earned its first NCAA Tournament victory in an opening round matchup over Hampton University.

Calzonetti has extensive international experience. He has recruited in England, France, Israel, Austria and the Netherlands and has helped run clinics in China and France.

Calzonetti spent seven seasons at Fairfield prior to his stint at Monmouth. During his tenure with the Stags, he helped build the program into a perennial contender in the MAAC.

In his first season in 1992-93, the Stags improved their victory total by six, earning their first winning season in seven years. In 1995, Fairfield reached the conference semifinals and in the next season earned the regular-season MAAC title. After falling in the tournament championship game, the Stags earned a National Invitation Tournament (NIT), the school's first post-season appearance since 1987.

The following year, after injuries hampered the team all season, the Stags became the first No. 8 seed to win the MAAC Tournament. Fairfield earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament where they battled top-seeded North Carolina to the final minute before falling, 82-74.

Before arriving at Fairfield, Calzonetti was an assistant coach at Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, Wash., and at St. Michael's College in Colchester, Vt. He began his coaching career at his alma mater Bentley in Waltham, Mass.

A 1985 graduate of Bentley, Calzonetti was a standout for the Falcons. During his two seasons at Bentley, the team compiled a 43-15 record. In his senior season, Calzonetti guided the team to the NCAA Division II tournament and a No. 13 national ranking in the final poll. Calzonetti was the team leader in every offensive category and was selected as the South Jersey College Player of the Year by the Courier Post.

Calzonetti is married to the former Shannon Thompson, and the couple has two sons, Cooper and Riley. Cooper is currently entering his sophomore season and plays college basketball at Divsion III Medaille in Buffalo.
