Kelsi Kavanagh begins her second season as an assistant coach at LIU Brooklyn after a standout four-year career at Monmouth University. A three-time team MVP for the Hawks, Kavanagh will assist head coach Natalie Desjardins in all aspects of the program.
Kavanagh helped lead the Blackbirds to their third-straght Northeast Conference championship in 2014. LIU Brooklyn finished no higher than eighth in all tournaments in the 2013-14 season, including six top-five finishes.A native of Point Pleasant, N.J., Kavanagh participated in all 33 of Monmouth's women's golf tournaments over four years and was a three-time captain. As a sophomore, she registered a runner-up finish at the Monmouth Hawk Invitational and finished 17th at the LIU-hosted Lonnie Barton Invitational which included a hole-in-one on the par-3 17th.
Her junior season saw her tally three top-10 finishes, including a tie for sixth at the Monmouth Hawk Invite. Kavanagh concluded her Monmouth career with an impressive senior season in which she was named to the All-Northeast Conference Second Team. She was announced as the NEC Golfer of the Week after winning the individual championship at the Hartford Invitational, which also helped the Hawks to a team title.
Kavanagh was nominated for NCAA Athlete of the Year and was awarded New Jersey Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Woman (NJAIAW) Female Athlete of the Year in 2013. She was the recipient of the National Association of Collegiate Women's Athletic Administrators (NACWA) Female Athlete Leadership Award and was also a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Athlete of the Year nominee.
Kavanagh graduated from Monmouth with a bachelor's degree in health studies and a minor in public relations, and recieved her master's degree in exercise science, with a focus on strength and conditioning and sports nutrition, at LIU Brooklyn in 2014.
