A coaching veteran with over a decade of experience at the Division I level, Kenyon Spears enters his second season as an assistant coach at LIU Brooklyn in 2016-17.
Spears, who helped the Blackbirds to a Northeast Conference Tournament semifinal appearance in his first year, most recently served for three seasons as the top assistant at the University of New Orleans and also held the recruiting coordinator position for the Privateers.
Prior to his time in Louisiana, Spears was an assistant at Brown University in 2011-12 and at Northeast Conference rival Wagner from 2005-10.
During his tenure with the Seahawks, which also included a stint as associate head coach from 2008-10, Spears helped develop All-NEC First performers Durell Vinson and Mark Porter, and was a part of the school's record-setting 23-win season in 2007-08.
Spears is a graduate of Lamar University, where he was a four-year letterwinner with the Cardinals from 1997-01. Spears served as captain as a senior, leading the team to the NCAA Tournament after winning the Southland Conference Tournament. Spears also coached as his alma mater for two seasons after graduation from 2002-04.
