Kayla Jones begins her seventh season as the LIU Brooklyn women's bowling coach in 2018-19, coming off a school record 75-win season and a second place finish in the NEC standings in 2017-18. Previously, in 2016, her Blackbirds advanced to the NEC Championship final for the first time in program history.
In 2014-15, Jones led the Blackbirds to wins over five top-ten teams, including eventual national champion, Nebraska. The win secured the tournament title for the Blackbirds at the Stephen F. Austin Jacks Invitaitonal. LIU went 59-48 in 2014-15, which is Jones' second best win percentage since her arrival at LIU.
Jones' team was also recognized nationally for their academic success in 2014-15, earning the National Tenpin Coaches Association All-Scholars Team award. The award is the most
prestigious academic accolade from the organization, granted to the NTCA member compiling the highest GPA.
Senior Brittany Hart was also named an All-American by the NTCA for the third straight season in 2014-15.
In 2013-14, Jones continued to build on her successful inaugural campaign, shattering the program record for wins in a year with 68 and closing the season ranked 14th nationally. A pair of victories over eventual national champion Sam Houston State highlighted an impressive 33 wins over ranked competitors.
In her first year, Jones was named Northeast Conference Coach of the Year after leading the Blackbirds to a then-program-record 53 victories and a trip to the Northeast Conference Championship. LIU, who defeated 27 nationally-ranked schools including eventual national champion Nebraska, completed the season ranked 17th in the country - the highest final ranking in program history.
A four-year letterwinner for Kutztown University, Jones was named NCAA Division II Bowler of the Year as a senior after leading her team with a 206.5 traditional team average. She was selected as the MVP of the Kutztown Dual Matches Tournament, the Pennsylvania State Championship and the Kutztown Annual Tournament, and was selected as a second team All-American. The All-America honor was the second for Jones, who was an honorable mention selection as a junior.
A three-time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and National Tenpin Coaches Association Academic All-American, Jones was a four-time team MVP for Kutztown and led KU to its first ever NCAA Bowling Championship appearance as a junior.
No stranger to the Northeast Conference, Jones was named to the All-NEC First Team in 2012 after leading the Golden Bears to a fourth-place finish at the NEC Championship. For her efforts, she was also named the Kutztown University Female Athlete of the Year.
Active within the university, Jones was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and graduated from Kutztown with a degree in leisure and sports studies in 2012.
