Men's Soccer
The 1966 men's soccer team was the first team in LIU history to compete in an NCAA title game. The Blackbirds outscored their opponents 85-19 during the season and rolled to a 15-2-0 record under the direction of head coach Joseph Machnik.
Reinhold Jabusch earned All-America honors while anchoring the defense, and Dov Markus, who went on to win the Hermann Trophy as NCAA Player of the Year the next season, led the team with 27 goals.
Prior to 1966, the Blackbirds had not won an NCAA game, but won three in a row to advance to the title game before falling to San Francisco.
