John Stavros was a four-time All-State and All-Met selection who graduated fourth on LIU's all-time goal scoring list with 44. As a sophomore, he scored a career-high 17 goals including the Blackbirds' lone tally in the NCAA Tournament against Cornell. During the course of his career, Stavros was on teams that appeared in three straight NCAA Tournaments, held consecutive No. 1 rankings in the New York region and twice finished the year ranked in the nation's top 10. He was drafted by the New York Cosmos of the North American Soccer League and played professionally for New York and New Jersey of the NASL.
