Ron Solomine (1960-61): A standout centerfielder for the Blackbirds for two seasons, Solomine was named All-Knickerbocker Conference as a senior after hitting an impressive .470. His 1961 batting average currently ranks seventh on LIU's single-season list. Despite only playing two years for LIU, the Brooklyn native graduated with a then-school-record 10 triples, which is still tied for sixth on the career list. A member of two Knickerbocker Conference championship teams, Solomine went on to play in the New York Yankees farm system and advanced all the way to Class AAA.
