Two-sport athlete Marius Russo (1934-37) was a veteran's selection for the Hall of Fame. At LIU he was a member of the men's basketball team that went undefeated in 1935-36.
After enjoying great success as a pitcher on the baseball team and as a basketball player for head coach and Hall of Famer Clair Bee, Russo went on to pitch for the New York Yankees, where he was a teammate of Joe DiMaggio.
He recorded a 45-34 career mark with a 3.13 ERA in 120 career games. He pitched in two World Series games, winning both with complete game performances.
