Larry Newbold was a versatile swingman who helped the LIU men's basketball team to a 66-13 ledger and to a pair of Tri-State League championships from 1965-68. 

He averaged a team-best 18.9 ppg in 1967-68, a year in which the Blackbirds reached the NIT quarterfinals and at one time were the number one ranked small college team in the country.  

When he graduated, Newbold ranked second all-time in scoring with 1,298 points.
