Roy Rubin coached the men’s basketball program back to national prominence from 1961-72. He guided LIU to a ledger of 174-94 in his tenure and helped the Blackbirds win three Tri-State League championships. LIU was selected to three NCAA College Division Tournaments, captured two Eastern Regional championships, appeared in two NCAA Tournaments, won three ECAC Division II titles and received a bid to the NIT in 1968.  

Rubin went on to coach the Philadelphia 76ers in the National Basketball Association.
