Dolly King
Induction Class of 2000
Men's Basketball
Dolly King remains the greatest all-around athlete in LIU history. A member of the 1938-39 and 1940-41 NIT men's basketball championship teams, it was not uncommon for him to play offensive end for the LIU football team during the day and then play 40 minutes of basketball for the Blackbirds that night.
King later played professional basketball for the New York Rens and Rochester Royals and professional football with the Long Island Indians and pro baseball with the Homestead Grays.
After his playing days, King went on to become a prominent basketball referee.
