Don Balsamo compiled one of the most prolific pitching records in the LIU baseball annals during his career from 1966-68. The school’s all-time wins leader (20), he also graduated atop the record books with 237.1 innings pitched and was second with 205 strikeouts. He led LIU to a 26-5 record and the NCAA College Division World Series in 1968 after posting a 5-2 mark and 1.85 ERA on the mound. Balsamo earned All-Metropolitan 9 honors after leading the Met Conference with six wins in 1967 and later that summer he threw the ACBL’s first no-hitter. He also struck out 82 hitters in 84.0 innings in his first campaign as a Blackbird.
