Brooklyn, N.Y. - A pair of Long Island University teams were honored when the Northeast Conference announced its Team Sportsmanship Awards for the winter seasons. The Blackbirds women's basketball and women's bowling teams earned the honors for their respective sports.

Instituted by league Presidents last spring, the awards are designed to acknowledge the team in each conference sport that, in the opinion of its peers, most closely demonstrates good sportsmanship based on the NEC Principles of Sportsmanship and Standards of Conduct. Voting is conducted at the conclusion of each season by every student-athlete and head coach, who rank teams within the conference based on a set of criteria.
