2009-10 Long Island Women's Basketball Schedule
Brooklyn, N.Y. - The Long Island University women's basketball team released its schedule for the 2009-10 season on Thursday. Head coach
Gail Striegler and the Blackbirds will play 29 games, including a pair of in-season tournament appearances, in their quest to turn heads in the Northeast Conference.
Long Island will open the season at home on Nov. 15 when La Salle visits the Wellness, Recreation and Athletic Center. The Blackbirds will host inter-borough rival Columbia on Nov. 18 before hitting the road for the first time. Long Island will make the jaunt to the nation's capital to take on Howard on Nov. 21.
After a home game against Maryland-Eastern Shore on Nov. 24, Long Island will host the annual LIU Turkey Classic on Nov. 27-28, featuring Brown, Georgia Tech and Seton Hall. Visits to Lafayette and St. John's, along with a home date with Delaware State, round out the single-game portion of the non-conference slate. The Blackbirds will play their final out-of-conference games on Dec. 28 and 30 at the Tulane Doubletree Classic in New Orleans, La. Texas Tech and North Dakota will also participate, along with the host Green Wave.
NEC play kicks off on Dec. 5 when Central Connecticut State comes to the Wellness Center. After a Dec. 13 tilt with conference newcomer Bryant, the league schedule hits full swing on Jan. 7 when Robert Morris comes to Brooklyn.
Long Island will wrap up the season on Feb. 27 with a trip to Central Connecticut. The first two rounds of the NEC Tournament will be on March 6-7 at Saint Francis (Pa.). The highest remaining seed will host the NEC Championship on March 14 to determine the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
