Brooklyn, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn women's basketball team continues Northeast Conference play with an afternoon matinee with Fairleigh Dickinson on Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Wellness Center. The Blackbirds enter the contest with a 13-4 record overall and a 2-3 mark in NEC play, while the Knights stand at 8-9 overall and 3-2 in conference competition.
Storylines
• The Blackbirds lost a 67-57 decision at the hands of Monmouth on Monday, dropping their NEC record to 2-3 on the year.
• Senior Ashley Palmer had her sixth double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds, while junior Ebony Davis added 13 points, including 9-for-9 from the free-throw line.
• Sophomore Cleandra Roberts added a season-high 11 points against the Hawks.
• Palmer was named NEC Player of the Week for the third consecutive week last Monday, following a 30-point, 13-rebound outburst against Quinnipiac. She is the first player in conference history to accomplish the feat. Palmer has scored 20 or more points in five of the last seven games and is averaging 23.1 points over that stretch.
• For the second consecutive week, CollegeInsider.com has named LIU as the 21st-ranked mid-major team in the country in its latest Mid-Major Top 25 Poll.
• Senior Kiara Evans had six assists against Monmouth, and now stands just four behind Tamika Dudley for the top spot.
• Evans holds the school's single-season record in assists with 206, 50 more than second-place Mary Lucus. The 5-8 guard is third in the NEC in the category this year.
• LIU won 11 of its 12 non-conference games, tying a program record for wins in the non-league. The 11-1 record is the best all-time in school history, bettering the 11-2 mark set in 2007-08.
• The win over Oklahoma State on Dec. 30 was the first victory over a Big XII school in LIU program history. The Blackbirds have the highest RPI in the NEC at 76, two spots ahead of Quinnipiac.
Rewind: Monmouth
• The Blackbirds saw a six-point halftime lead disappear as Monmouth went on a 21-4 run midway through the second half to take control.
• The Hawks shot 67.9 percent from the field in the second half, including a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the three-point line.
• Sophomore Cleandra Roberts was one point shy of her career high with 11 points, nine of which came in the second half.
• Monmouth also became one of only four teams all season to outrebound LIU Brooklyn, taking the slim 32-29 advantage.
Scouting Fairleigh Dickinson
•The Knights upped their NEC mark to 3-2 on Saturday with a 10-point win over St. Francis (N.Y.).
•Mariyah Laury had a game-high 28 points against the Terriers, going 9-for-18 from the field and 10-for-12 from the charity stripe.
•Laury leads FDU in scoring at 16.4 points per game.
•Danielle Pankey also averages double figures in scoring for the Knights at 10.2 ppg.
