Hamden, Conn. - The LIU Brooklyn women's basketball team (12-3, 1-2 NEC) concludes its two-game Northeast Conference road trip with a tilt against Quinnipiac (10-4, 2-1 NEC) on Monday evening. Live video and audio for the contest, as well as live stats, can all be accessed here.
Storylines
• The Blackbirds had their seven-game winning streak snapped by Sacred Heart on Saturday, 74-59, dropping them to 1-2 in NEC play.
• LIU won 11 of its 12 non-conference games, tying a program record for wins in the non-league. The 11-1 record is the best all-time in school history, bettering the 11-2 mark set in 2007-08.
• CollegeInsider.com has named LIU as the 21st-ranked mid-major team in the country in its latest Mid-Major Top 25 Poll.
• Senior Ashley Palmer had 23 points against the Pioneers and needs just three points to match LIU's all-time scoring record of 1,745, set by Tamika Dudley (1999-03). She currently leads the NEC and ranks 22nd in the NCAA at 19.5 ppg.
• Palmer was named MVP of the Peppermill Holiday Classic, helping the Blackbirds to a pair of wins and the tournament title. The 5-10 forward averaged 22.5 points and 6.0 rebounds in wins over Nevada and previously-unbeaten Oklahoma State.
• Senior Kiara Evans stands four assists from second place on LIU's career list behind former teammate Connie James (2006-10). Evans made her mark against the Cowgirls with the game-winning hoop with 2.2 seconds remaining to erase a one-point deficit.
• Junior Ebony Davis was named to the all-tournament team in Reno, Nev., after posting back-to-back double-doubles. Davis averaged 13.0 points and 10.0 rebounds over the two games.
• The win over Oklahoma State was the first victory over a Big XII school in LIU program history. The Blackbirds have the second-highest RPI in the NEC at 72, 14 spots behind Quinnipiac.
Rewind: Sacred Heart
• LIU Brooklyn lost for the first time in over a month on Saturday as Sacred Heart picked up a 74-59 win.
• The Blackbirds struggled to stop the Pioneers, who shot 52.9 percent from the floor and 56.3 from three-point range.
• Both percentages were the highest marks for an LIU opponent this season. No team had shot better than 50 percent against the Blackbirds prior to Saturday.
Approaching Records
• Seniors Ashley Palmer and Kiara Evans are closing in on a pair of impressive career milestones.
• Palmer stands just three points from tying Tamika Dudley's record for career points at LIU at 1,745.
• Over her last five games, Palmer is averaging 23.8 ppg and has recorded double figures in 14 straight.
• Palmer ranks first in the Northeast Conference at 19.5 ppg on the year.
• Evans is now 17 assists from tying the career mark of 380, also held by Dudley.
• She is four shy of second place (Connie James).
Cle Brings Glee
• Sophomore Cleandra Roberts had a season-high 11 points against Sacred Heart on Saturday.
• The scoring output was one off her career high of 12 points, set last season against Saint Francis (Pa.).
• Roberts connected on five of her six field-goal attempts and also had a pair of steals in a season-high 28 minutes of action.
The Palmer File
• Ashley Palmer was recently named the Choice Hotels/NEC Player of the Week on Jan. 3.
• Palmer has won three POW awards this season, and six times in her career.
• The 5-10 forward currently leads the Blackbirds in scoring, rebounding and field-goal percentage.
• Including her seven Rookie of the Week honors in 2008-09, has picked up 13 NEC weekly awards in three-plus seasons.
Going to the Wells Often
• Junior Krystal Wells got her first start of the season against William & Mary and made her presence felt.
• Wells went off for a career-high 24 points, including 18 after the halftime break.
• The 5-5 guard hit a career-high six three-pointers.
• Wells went 3-for-5 from beyond the arc against Sacred Heart on Saturday.
• The Douglasville, Ga. native leads the team and ranks second in the Northeast Conference in three-point shooting (45.5%).
Scouting Quinnipiac
• The Bobcats are coming off a 16-point win at St. Francis (N.Y.) on Saturday, and currently stand at 10-4 overall and 2-1 in NEC play.
• Like LIU, Quinnipiac was able to knock off a BCS school this season as it defeated Minnesota earlier in the year.
• Felicia Barron leads the nation in steals at 5.4 per game. She also leads the team at 16.4 points per game.
