Teaneck, N.J. - The LIU Brooklyn women's basketball team (20-9, 9-8 NEC) concludes its regular-season schedule on Monday evening as it takes the short trip to New Jersey to battle Fairleigh Dickinson (13-16, 8-9 NEC).
The Blackbirds are coming off a narrow 55-54 loss to Monmouth on Saturday, and are playing for seeding in the upcoming Northeast Conference Tournament. LIU sits in seventh place in the league standings, one game ahead of FDU and one game behind Mount St. Mary's and Saint Francis (Pa.).
LIU is led offensively by the NEC's leading scorer, senior Ashley Palmer. The 5-10 forward recently became the fourth player in NEC history to score 2,000 points in a career, and is averaging a career-best 19.2 points per game this year. Palmer is also the team's leading rebounder at 7.8 per game and is shooting 49.4 percent from the field.
Fairleigh Dickinson has lost three of its last four games, including a 62-47 defeat at the hands of St. Francis (N.Y.) on Saturday. Mariyah Laury paces the squad at 17.5 ppg, and was the lone Knight to score in double figures against the Terriers with 18 points. FDU shot just 25.0 percent from the field in the loss, including 4-for-21 from three-point range.
Earlier this year, the Knights battled back from an 11-point first-half lead and came away with a 71-65 win over LIU at the Wellness Center on Jan. 16. Laury had a game-high 25 points on 11-of-17 shooting, while Palmer had 18 points and 13 rebounds in defeat.
