Brooklyn, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn women's basketball team takes on Bryant on Monday evening in a pivotal Northeast Conference matchup. The Blackbirds enter the contest with a 16-7 overall record, and are 5-6 in NEC play, while the Bulldogs are 13-9 and 6-5 in the NEC.
Storylines
• The Blackbirds will be looking to even their NEC record with a win, while the Bulldogs enter with a 6-5 league mark.
• LIU had one of its best defensive performances of the season on Saturday against Central Connecticut State, holding the Blue Devils to 43 points in a 57-43 win.
• The Blackbirds held CCSU to 8-for-29 shooting (27.6 percent) in the second half, marking the sixth time this season that LIU has held an opponent below 30 percent for a 20-minute period.
• Junior Ebony Davis registered a team-high 16 points, eight rebounds and had six blocked shots to break LIU Brooklyn's all-time single-game mark of five, which had stood for over 20 years.
• With the six blocks, Davis now has 44 for the season and is three shy of the all-time single-season mark held by Kim Colyer (1988-89).
Rewind: Central Conn. St.
• The Blackbirds used a decisive edge in points in the paint and bench points to take home a 14-point win over the Blue Devils.
• LIU outscored its opponent 34-18 in points in the paint, and a remarkable 26-0 in bench points.
• Cleandra Roberts had a nice game off the bench, scoring eight points and gathering six rebounds.
• The Blackbirds racked up 15 steals in the game, matching their season high (Wagner on Dec. 5).
Block Party
• Junior Ebony Davis has been a shot-blocking extraordinaire in her first season at LIU Brooklyn.
• The 6-0 forward has swatted 44 shots in 23 contests, ranking her in a tie for second on the school's single-season list.
• Davis recently broke LIU's single-game blocked shot record with six swats against Central Connecticut State. The prior mark of five was held by three people, and stood for over 20 years.
• The St. Louis, Mo. native is three blocks away from matching the single-season record of 47 blocks, held by Kim Colyer (1988-89).
Scouting Bryant
• The Bulldogs enter with a 13-9 record, and are 6-5 in the NEC after downing St. Francis (N.Y.) on Saturday, 55-45.
• Danielle Douglas led Bryant with 16 points in the win, while Meredith Soper added 14.
• Douglas paces the squad at 12.4 points per game, while Naana Ankoma-Mensa (12.1 ppg) and Katie Whittington (11.0 ppg) also average double-figures.
LIU Brooklyn-Bryant History
• The series between LIU and Bryant is relatively new, as the two teams had their first game against one another on Dec. 13, 2009.
• The Blackbirds won the first two games of the series, while the Bulldogs swept the home-and-home last season.
