Brooklyn, N.Y. - LIU Brooklyn women's basketball standout Ashley Palmer has been invited to participate in the 2012 ProHoops Free Agent Camp. Palmer, who ranks as LIU's all-time career scoring leader after finishing her four-year career with 2,044 points, was invited to showcase her talents against some of the top players in country in front of scouts, coaches and general managers from the WNBA.
Palmer burst onto the scene as a freshman, leading the Blackbirds in scoring at 17.1 points per game en route to Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year honors. The Oxford, Pa. native paced the squad in scoring all four of her seasons at LIU, and became the first player in school history to record over 2,000 points.
A three-time All-NEC First Team selection, Palmer also led LIU Brooklyn in rebounding in each of her four years and pulled down 1,003 boards to rank third in school history. Palmer is only the second player in NEC history to register 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career, joining former Saint Francis (Pa.) standout Jess Zinoble.
This past year, Palmer was a five-time NEC Player of the Week and once again was named to the All-NEC First Team. Palmer was named Courtyard by Marriott Turkey Classic Most Valuable Player after helping the Blackbirds to wins over Atlantic 10 schools Charlotte and La Salle, and followed that up with another MVP performance at the Peppermill Holiday Classic in Nevada.
In Reno, Palmer averaged 22.5 points and 6.0 rebounds to propel LIU to a tournament championship. The Blackbirds downed the host Wolf Pack of Nevada in the opening round, then came from behind to defeat Oklahoma State in the championship game. Palmer tallied a team-high 18 points against the Cowgirls.
The invitation-only camp will take place in Denver, Colo. on March 31.
