BROOKLYN, N.Y. – In the weeks heading up to the start of the NCAA Division I basketball season, the LIU Brooklyn women's basketball team has been keeping busy, both on and off the court. The team started practice in early October, but has also found time to contribute to the Brooklyn community in multiple ways.
In late September, the Blackbirds participated in a two-mile Walk to End Alzheimer's event on Coney Island. The team, along with over 1,000 other walkers, including LIU Brooklyn alum and NYC Alzheimer's chapter care consultant, Lorna Walcott Brown, raised over $120,000 dollars for the Alzheimer's Association
The Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's is the nation's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer's care, support and research. Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, this inspiring event calls on participants of all ages and abilities to reclaim the future for millions.

And in mid-October, the Blackbirds ran two clinics for boys and girls at the Ingersoll Community Center in downtown Brooklyn. The team spent time teaching basketball skills, and playing basketball games with them.
The Ingersoll Community Center is a brand new building in the heart of Fort Greene, Brooklyn, offering an open door and exciting, free programming for community members of all ages, from elementary school children to senior citizens.
