BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Just one day after announcing the signing of two student-athletes for the 2014-15 campaign, LIU Brooklyn women's basketball head coach Gail Striegler has announced two more signees for the class of 2018. Paris Jones and Stylz Sanders have both signed National Letters of Intent, and will join the Blackbirds next fall.
Jones, a 5-5 guard, comes from Corona, Calif., where she has been a key part of a very successful Santiago High School team. A four-year starter at Santiago, she has helped lead her team to three league championships so far. In 2013, she led the team to a 29-3 record, and the CIF-Southern Section I-AA championship. She was named All-League in both 2012 and 2013, and is ranked #67 in the nation in the point guard position. She has also played with Riverside Elite and West Coast Premier Valley.
"Paris is a true point guard," Striegler said. "She is great at distributing the ball and being the floor general. She can score by attacking the rim or shooting the three."
Sanders, a 5-9 guard from Arlington, Texas, is a four-year letter winner for Mansfield Summit High School. She was a member of the Jaguar squad that won the 2012 4A State Championships, and in her junior season, she helped lead the team to the Texas 4A regional semi-finals. She was selected first-team All-District that season, averaging 7.3 points per game and 3.7 steals per game.
"Stylz is a very athletic guard that can finish at the rim," Striegler said. "She will fit in well with our system, and she will provide depth for us at the three guard position."
Sanders and Jones join a class of 2018 that already includes Angela Waithe and Drew Winter.
