2013-14 LIU Brooklyn Women's Basketball Schedule
BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Head coach Gail Striegler and the LIU Brooklyn women's basketball program announced its 2013-14 schedule Thursday. LIU has 29 games on the schedule this season, including 13 home games at the Steinberg Center and one matchup at the nearby Barclays Center against St. Francis Brooklyn.
The Blackbirds open the season Friday, November 8 in the Steinberg Wellness Center against local rival Columbia for the second year in a row. LIU follows up with two New Jersey teams, playing Rider on the road on November 14, before hosting NJIT, Wednesday, November 20. The Blackbirds will then host Maine, Friday, November 22, before taking part in the ninth-annual LIU Turkey Classic. LIU opens the weekend against McNeese State, Friday, November 29 at 2 p.m., with Southern Utah and Georgia Tech facing off at 4:30 p.m. The conosolation and championship rounds will follow at the same times, Saturday, November 30.
LIU will then play three non-conference matchups on the road against Penn (Dec. 5), Towson (Dec. 9) and Monmouth (Dec. 14), before heading west for two games in Arizona. Rounding out the 2013 calendar year, the Blackbirds will take on Grand Canyon University (Dec. 28) and Northern Arizona (Dec. 30), in Phoenix and Flagstaff, respectively.
LIU Brooklyn will then return to the east coast to get right into the swing of conference play. The Blackbirds will play their first Northeast Conference game of the season, Saturday, January 4 on Staten Island, taking on Wagner at 7 p.m. LIU then travels to Emmitsburg, Md., to take on Mount St. Mary's, Monday, January 6.
The Blackbirds begin their home conference schedule in Brooklyn at the Barclays Center. LIU will face off against St. Francis Brooklyn, Saturday, January 11 in the Barclays Center. Tip is slated for 12 p.m. The first NEC game of the season in the Steinberg Wellness Center will be on Monday, January 13, as the Blackbirds play host to Central Connecticut. The regular season concludes Monday, March 3 in Brooklyn, when LIU travels down the road to take on St. Francis Brooklyn in a rematch at 7 p.m.
