BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn women's basketball team will play the final game of a five-game home stand at the Steinberg Wellness Center this Saturday, February 8. LIU will host Mount St. Mary's in the team's annual Play 4 Kay/Hoops for Cancer fundraising event. The Blackbirds will also welcome back members of the women's basketball family for Alumni Day. The game against the Mountaineers is slated to tip off at 2 p.m. As is the case with every conference game this season, the matchup will be streamed live at www.NECFrontRow.com
LAST TIME VS. MOUNT
• LIU will be looking for revenge this Saturday, as the last time the two teams faced off, Mount won the game in devastating fashion. The Blackbirds came back from being down in the first half to lead Mount St. Mary's for the duration of the second half in Knott Arena, but the Mountaineers' Jacqueline Brewer drained two three-pointers in the final 25 seconds of play to steal the win from the Blackbirds, 63-62.
• It was a total team effort for LIU, with three players scoring in double digits. Senior Cleandra Roberts led LIU with 21 points and four rebounds, along with three steals. Junior Letava Whippy had 12 points and a team-high six rebounds, shooting a near-perfect 10-for-11 from the free throw line. And sophomore Sophie Bhasin added 11 points and three rebounds. Junior Kelly Robinson had nine points and four rebounds in the loss.
LAST TIME OUT
• LIU has some solid momentum heading into the Mount match-up, as the Blackbirds are coming off a win over second-place Sacred Heart. It was a tale of two halves in the Steinberg Wellness Center Tuesday night, as LIU rallied back from a halftime deficit for the first time this season to beat the Pioneers, 62-54. With the win, LIU improved to 5-16 overall, 3-7 in the Northeast Conference, while Sacred Heart fell to 10-11 overall, 7-3 in the NEC.
• Senior Cleandra Roberts led all players with 21 points and 11 rebounds, for her sixth double-double of the season, while sophomore Sophie Bhasin sparked the second half surge, scoring all 18 of her points in the final 15 minutes of the game. Freshman Aleisha Myers had nine points, while Whippy had six points and six rebounds, and Robinson led all players with six assists.
ALL-TIME SERIES
• Mount leads the all-time series between the two teams, 30-17, including four of the last five match-ups. The last time LIU beat the Mountaineers was January 21, 2012.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
• Mount St. Mary's has won three of its last four games, and is currently tied for fourth in the NEC standings with a 6-4 record.
• Head Coach Bryan Whitten just celebrated his 300th career victory, with Mount's 69-55 win over CCSU at home Monday night.
• Junior Jenn Carney came off the bench to score a career-high 30 points against CCSU. The Mount shot 61.5 percent from beyond the arc in the win.
• Senior Sydney Henderson leads the Mount with 17.8 points per game, and 5.3 rebounds per game, while Jacquline Brewer averages 11.6 points per game. And Kayla Grossett, Ashley Christie and Jenn Carney have all scored 20+ points in a game for the Mountaineers this season.
