BROOKLYN, N.Y. – LIU Brooklyn senior forward Cleandra Roberts has been named to the All-Northeast Conference First Team for the first time in her career, it was announced by the league on Twitter Thursday. It is the first conference honor for Roberts in her four years at LIU, and the first time a Blackbird has earned first-team honors since Ashley Palmer was recognized in 2011-12.
Roberts finished the regular season averaging 18.7 points per game, fourth in the NEC. She led LIU in scoring in 21 of the teams 29 games, and had 14 games with 20+ points scored. Roberts was also one of the most accurate shooters in the conference, as she shot .481 from the field this season, the third best total overall.
The Miami, Fla. native was also seventh in the conference in rebounds per game, pulling down 7.4 per game, and tallying seven double-doubles this season. She was also top ten in the league in steals per game (1.63) and defensive rebounds per game (5.30).
Roberts' senior season was by far her best over the four years she's spent at LIU. She doubled her career points total in just one season, scoring 1,000 points, after coming into her senior year with just 481 career points. She has scored 534 points so far in her senior season, becoming the 18th player in LIU Brooklyn history to surpass the 1,000-point mark.
Up next for Roberts and the Blackbirds is the first round of the NEC Tournament. No.8 seed LIU will travel to take on No.1 seed Robert Morris in Moon Township, Pa., Sunday, March 9 at 2 p.m.
