BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn women's basketball team played tough with one of the best teams in the nation, holding No. 14 Florida State to their lowest point total of the season so far, falling to the Seminoles, 78-42. With the loss, LIU stands at 1-2 on the year, while FSU improves to 4-1.

The Blackbirds kept it close in the first quarter, when junior Brianna Farris had a layup to keep the score tied at 2. From there, LIU was able to answer with baskets every time the Seminoles struck. The Blackbirds took the lead briefly at 6:52, when senior Jolanna Ford hit a three to put LIU up, 7-6. Ford would hit two free throws just over a minute later, to give LIU the 9-8 advantage. But with just under three minutes left in the period, the Seminoles went on a run. The visiting team would score eight unanswered points to take the lead, 23-15. LIU would continue to chip away at the lead in the second quarter, and two free throws by sophomore Paris Jones cut the gap to just six points, 25-19. But Florida State's hot shooting kept them ahead, and the Seminoles took a 41-26 advantage into the break.

In the third and fourth quarters, the Blackbirds struggled to make shots, hitting just 28 percent from the field, to Florida Stat'es 50 percent. With momentum on their side, the Seminoles continued to roll, and in the end, took the win, 78-42.

Up next, the Blackbirds take on tournament participant Sam Houston State, Sunday, November 29 at the Barclays Center. Tip off is slated for 12 p.m.
