BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn women's lacrosse team dropped in its final home match of the 2015 season on Sunday, falling to Robert Morris 12-4 on Senior Day.
With the loss, the Blackbirds finish 3-4 in NEC play. The 2015 squad set a program record in wins this year, with seven, while sophomore Jenn Peters scored her 100th goal of her career.
It was a low scoring first half for both teams, with only five goals total in the first 30 minutes. Sophomore Tori Shinkowitz struck first for LIU on an assist from senior Brittany Rader three minutes in.
it would be another 14 minutes before any time would strike again. Peters picked up her own saved shot and sent it into the back of the net to give LIU the 2-0 lead. But the Colonials quickly climbed back, scoring two goals in 50 seconds with just under nine to go. they would score one more in the half, before turnovers made up the last six minutes.
Robert Morris started out the second half with a 4-0 run through 11 minutes of play, before a Robert Morris foul turnover gave Jenn Peters perfect scoring position as she scored LIU's third of the game on a feed from freshman Carly Weiss.
But the Colonials continued to find their momentum, adding three straight in the next six minutes. Peters scored her third of the game for LIU with just over 10 to go. Robert Morris scored twice more to end the game at 12-4.
The Blackbirds collected 13 ground balls and made 16 shots on the afternoon.
