Loretto, PA.- LIU Brooklyn women's soccer fell to the Saint Francis University Red Flash, 2-0, Sunday afternoon. The Blackbirds drop to 1-13-0, 0-5-0 NEC with the loss.
Gabi Morales netted both of the Red Flash's goals in the match.
LIU created chances early in the match, senior
Madison Gomez sent a shot high in the 5
th minute. Then a minute later, sophomore
Marian Awad propelled a shot wide.
The Blackbirds, who outshot the Red Flash 8-6 in the first half, came back with pressure in the 15
th minute. Redshirt junior
Jenn Peters had a try blocked, which created a corner kick. On the ensuing corner, senior
Brittany Galske fired wide.
The Red Flash answered with back-to-back chances. Morales had a shot stopped by sophomore keeper
Aline Allmann. Then three minutes later, Allmann (ten saves) stopped Alyssa McGhee's try.
LIU continued its pressure in the offensive third. Senior Chole Amaradio directed a shot on goal, which was stopped by Julia Hernan. Two minutes later, Amaradio had another chance rejected by Hernan (four saves).
Saint Francis University broke the ice in the 43
rd minute. Morales received a pass from Sara Suler and fired a shot, from the top of the box, into the net.
Morales scored again for the Red Flash, who outshot LIU 14-10 in the match, in the 59
th minute to make it 2-0.
The Red Flash defense held the Blackbirds to two shots in the second half.
LIU Brooklyn returns to action Friday, Oct. 21 when it hosts Mount St. Mary's. Kickoff is slated for 6:30 p.m.
