BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn field hockey team dropped a 9-0 decision at home to Rider Thursday evening on LIU Field. The Blackbirds move to 0-12 on the season and 0-4 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, while Rider improved to 9-7 overall, and 3-2 in MAAC play.

The  Broncs got on the board just over six minutes into the game, when Carlie Spaeder scooped one past the Blackbirds. LIU's defense would hold Rider off for the next 20 minutes, before the visiting team was able to score at 27:03, putting a rebound in off a blocked shot. Just over a minute later, Rider added another goal, this time by Allison Baligian, and the Broncs would take a 3-0 lead into the break.

Coming out of halftime, Baligian scored again, knocking in a long pass from teammate Melissa Cunningham. Just four minutes later, the Broncs would score three goals in three minutes, to widen the lead to 7-0. Two more goals in the 61st and 69th minutes gave Rider the final decision, 9-0. Rider got off 20 shots in the second half, with freshman goalie Molly Jannell making eight saves under intense pressure.

Madi Cook, Casey Carrigan, Anna Bauer and Jordan Laytos all had shots for LIU in the loss. Up next, LIU hosts Sacred Heart for its final home game of the 2016 season, Sunday, October 23 at 4 p.m.
