NEW YORK, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn field hockey closed out its innagural season Sunday afternoon on the road, falling to local New York City rival Columbia, 8-1 at Baker Field. With the loss, the Blackbirds finish the year 0-15 overall, and 0-6 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Freshman

The Lions scored early in the game, getting on the board just before the two minute mark. Columbia added two more to its tally in the next two minutes, to take the early 3-0 lead. LIU would manage to quiet the offense for the next 15 minutes. Colubia would score twice more before the half, including one on a defelection at close range, and the Lions led 6-0 at the half.
The Blackbirds got on the board in the 42nd minute of play, when
Anna Bauer scored her first career goal, off an assist from
Brooke McGinley. But Columbia would answer just two minutes later, to stymie any of LIU's momentum. It was one of only three shots the Lions would take in the second half, as the defense stepped up to shut down CU. Columbia would score one more goal before the game was up in the 64th minute, beating the Blackbirds in the season finale, 8-1.
LIU had the advantage in penalty corners, totaling seven to Columbia's six. The Blackbirds' defense also held the Lions to just three shots in the second half, after facing 15 in the first. Molly Jannell and
Shelly Drucker did well, as Jannell made four saves in the first half, and Drucker gave up just two goals in 35 minutes of action.
Brooke McGinley had a shot and an assist for LIU, while
Lydia Trout,
Jordan Laytos and
Casey Carrigan each had shots for LIU.
Anna Bauer registered four shots, including her goal, to lead the team offensively.
