BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Julie Laszlo and Meg Donahue recorded two goals apiece and teammate Casey Hanna tacked on a goal and two assists as Monmouth defeated the LIU Brooklyn field hockey team, 9-0, at a rainy LIU Field on Sunday morning. The Blackbirds, who were playing the first home match in program history, dropped to 0-10 with the loss.
The Hawks scored three times in the contest's first 10 minutes, with Hanna assisting on the first two goals off penalty corners. Kelly Hanna, the younger sister of Casey, scored the game's third goal and Monmouth tacked on two more to close the opening half with a 5-0 lead.
Playing the contest in a downpour thanks to the remnants of Hurricane Matthew, the second half saw the Hawks add four more goals to improve to an impressive 11-2 overall and 2-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. Freshman
Anna Bauer had the lone shot for the Blackbirds while freshmen
Molly Jannell and
Shelly Drucker each played a half and combined for four saves.
LIU Brooklyn returns to action on Friday, Oct. 14 for another MAAC contest at Siena, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
