BOSTON, Mass. – The LIU Brooklyn men's basketball team dropped its first game of the season Sunday evening, falling to the host Terriers of Boston University at the third day of the Steve Wright Classic, 86-69. BU led wire-to-wire in the game, and both teams now stand at 3-1 on the season.

A slow start in the first half ended up dooming the Blackbirds in the game. Just over two minutes into the contest, the Terriers went on an 11-2 run that lasted three minutes, and saw the home team drain three three-pointers, taking the 13-4 lead. Senior Jerome Frink and freshman Jashaun Agosto would both score in the next two minutes of play to cut the lead down to five, but not long after, BU went on a tear. Over the next five minutes, the Terriers scored 13 unanswered points. LIU got the looks from long distance, but went 0-8 from the field during that span, including 0-5 from behind the arc, and BU took a 28-10 lead.

Sophomore Julius van Sauers and freshman Ashtyn Bradley would make three treys for the Blackbirds later in the half, closing the lead down to single digits, 34-25, but the sharp shooting was short lived. Boston ended the half on a 10-3 tear to widen the gap back up, and take a 44-28 lead into halftime.

BU's strong offense continued into the second half. After Frink made an early layup, BU would outscore the Blackbirds 14-4 over the next five minutes, taking their widest lead of the day, 58-34. The distance was all the Terriers would need. Every time LIU threatened, BU's Cedric Hankerson would drain a three-pointer. The senior went 5-for-11 from long distance, with all five coming in a row in the second half. Despite a late push by the Blackbirds, Boston University took the win, 86-69, and the tournament championship title, having gone 3-0 over the past three days.
