BURLINGTON, Vt. – The LIU Brooklyn women's basketball team fell to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Friday evening on the first day of the TD Bank Classic, hosted by the University of Vermont. The Blackbirds fell to the Panthers, 88-50. LIU moves to 0-4 with the loss, and will play in the 5 p.m. game Saturday, against either NJIT or the host Catamounts.

Freshman Gabrielle Caponegro got the Blackbirds on the board first 20 seconds into the game, with a jumper. Milwaukee answered with a three pointer 20 seconds later, and the Panthers led from there. Milwaukee would outscore LIU 26-6 in the first quarter, and led 29-10 heading into the second.

Towards the end of the second quarter, LIU was able to go on an 8-2 run, led by freshman Aja Boyd. Boy landed two layups, while junior DeAngelique Waithe went 2-for-2 from the free throw line, and made a layup with 15 seconds left in the half, cutting UMW's lead to 41-23 at the break.

Boyd and Caponegro would both score for LIU early in the third quarter, but another 12-0 run for the Panthers put UMW up, 56-27. Over the end of the third quarter and into the fourth, LIU would string together a 7-0 run, led by four points from sophomore Drew Winter, but the 23-point difference was as close as the Blackbirds would get for the rest of the game.

Milwaukee would use a 25-5 run in the fourth quarter to keep the Blackbirds at bay, and ended up taking the 88-50 win.
