SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The LIU Brooklyn women's basketball team is hitting the road after a week at home, for three games in the tristate area. The Blackbirds open with a midday, midweek matchup against a familiar opponent, taking on Seton Hall, Wednesday, December 7 at 11:30 a.m. The game will serve as the Hall's Kids Day, presented by Refuel with Chocolate Milk. Over 600 school-aged students are expected to be in attendance for the match-up.

- The LIU Brooklyn women's basketball team (1-6) had its first win of the season Sunday afternoon, beating Long Island opponent Stony Brook in the Steinberg Wellness Center, 58-48. Senior Shanovia Dove led LIU in the effort, with 23 points, eight rebounds, two steals and two assists.
- The Blackbirds had one of their strongest all-around performances of the season. The win saw the most points for LIU so far this season (58), as well as the most field goals made (21) and the most free throws made (13). LIU also had their fewest fouls of the year (15) and the lowest amount of turnovers this season (13).
- Freshman Aja Boyd added 11 points, while classmate Gabrielle Caponegro had eight rebounds, five points, three blocks and two steals. Graduate student Dionne Coe added eight points in the win.
- Seton Hall (5-3) is also coming off a win, as the Pirates beat Wake Forest, 70-63 at home this Sunday, where they are 4-1 this year. SHU also has wins over Marist and Boston College this season, and an overtime win against Northeast Conference for Central Connecticut State, 78-70. Seton Hall losses have come to Princeton, Minnesota and UT Arlington.
- This is the first meeting between LIU and Seton Hall since the 2000-01 season, when Seton Hall head coach Anthony Bozzella was at the helm for LIU Brooklyn. Current head coach Stephanie Oliver spent two seasons as Bozzella's top assistant when he made the move to Seton Hall four years ago.
- Seton Hall has a young team this season, with nine freshmen on the roster, including forward Deja Winters, the reigning BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.
- Offensively, redshirt junior guard JaQuan Jackon leads the Pirates, with 15.6 points per game, along with 4.0 rebounds per game.
- Two other SHU players are averaging double digits in scoring: sophomore guard LaTecia Smith, who puts up 12.8 points per game, along with 6.2 rebounds per game, and is second on the team with 22 assists, and freshman guard Kaela Hilaire, who averages 12.8 points per game, and leads the Pirates with 36 assists and 27 steals.
- Defensively, senior center Lubirdia Godon had a team-high 8.6 rebounds per game, along with nine blocks, while 6-4 freshman center Jalya Jones-Pack leads the team with 15 blocks.
- Up next, LIU takes on two New York opponents in two days, traveling to Hamilton, N.Y. to face off against Colgate, Saturday, December 10 at 4 p.m., before heading uptown to take on Columbia, Monday, December 12 at 7 p.m.
