MOON TOWNSHIP, PA. – The LIU Brooklyn women's basketball team suffered a 69-53 defeat at the hands of Robert Morris Monday night in the Sewall Center. With the loss, LIU is now 8-19 on the season, and 6-10 in Northeast Conference play.

The game started out on even footing, with the two teams trading baskets. Robert Morris would take a six point lead on a three from Rebeca Navarro at 3:51, 14-8, but LIU would eventually come back to tie it up. Senior Shanice Vaughan had a long three with 1:51 left in the first quarter to make it 16-16. But over the next six and a half minutes of play, the Colonials would go on a 12-2 run, taking the lead, 28-18. The home team would continue to lead by double digits despite LIU's best efforts, and RMU led at halftime, 38-28.

In the third quarter, LIU showed a spark. A layup from Vaughan would cut the lead to four, 40-36 at 7:31, and three minutes later, the Blackbirds went on a 6-0 run to cut the lead even further. Junior Shanovia Dove went 4-for-4 at the free throw line, and senior Jolanna Ford had a layup, and LIU was within striking distance, 44-42 with 3:44 on the clock in the third period. RMU would end the period with an 8-2 run, including two threes from senior Ashley Ravelli, to regain momentum and go up, 52-44.

The Colonials sealed the deal with a strong fourth quarter. As LIU struggled to score, the home team would put together two 8-0 runs that put the game out of reach for the Blackbirds, 69-50 with 2:36 to play. Junior Brianna Farris hit a late three to cut the gap down to 69-53, but it was the last time LIU would score, and the Colonials took the win to improve to 9-7 in conference play.

Dove led all scorers with 19 points, including going 9-for-11 from the free throw line. The Colonials had three players scored in double digits, led by Navarro with 17 points.

Up next, the Blackbirds take on Bryant and Wagner at home, in the final weekend of NEC action. LIU will open with the Bulldogs, Saturday, February 27 at 2 p.m.
