BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn lacrosse team picked up its fourth win of the season over Delaware State on Tuesday afternoon. The Blackbirds returned home to host the Hornets, in a matchup that was controlled by LIU from start to finish.

Leading the offense for the Blackbirds was junior Mary McQueen. The junior posted five goals in the win, boosting her goal total to 25 on the season.

Co-captain Jenn Peters also registered five points in the win, and now tallies a season total of 37 (32g, 5a). The junior scored four times, and earned an assist on sophomore Mackenzie Rolland's first goal of the season. Rolland, a transfer this season from Pfieffer, has seen action in all nine games.

Carlie Robinson was the third Blackbird to earn at least a hat trick, tallying four goals and an assist against the Hornets. While Tori Shinkowitz, also part of the captain trio, aided in the scoring efforts with three assists and a goal.

Peters got the Blackbirds on the board early, just a little more than 20 seconds into the matchup. As the Hornets would respond with a goal from sophomore Lauren Perry.

But LIU would find a spark in the offense shortly after, going on an 11-0 run. Sophomore Carlie Robinson would find the back of the net three straight times in the run, posting a hat trick in under two minutes. Shinkowitz, Peters, McQueen, Kathryn Harvey and Rolland would all score during the 11 minute-run.

Becca Williams' goal with one minute remaining in the first half, made her the seventh Blackbird to tally a goal against Hornets' keeper Rhian Sellers. Williams was just as effective defensively, causing three turnovers. The freshman also picked up two ground balls, and tallied two draw controls.

Harvey, Robinson and McQueen would all score at least once more in the second half to give the Blackbirds a solid cushion for the rest of the game.

Freshman Virginia Gibbons earned the start, and the win for the Blackbirds. Gibbons played the first half of the game, and made four saves while in between the pipes. Senior Alexis Maldonado came in at goal after the half, and has now played in all nine games this season.

Next up, LIU will conclude its non-conference season at Iona this weekend. The Blackbirds will take on the Gaels this Saturday, April 2, with a first draw set for 2:00 p.m.
