ALBANY, N.Y. - Junior Naeem Charles scored his third goal in the last two matches, but the LIU Brooklyn men's soccer team had its recent three-game winning streak snapped on the road by Albany on Sunday afternoon. The Great Danes, who won the America East regular-season title last year, scored two goals in each half to come away with a 4-1 victory.

LIU had the better run of play in the early going, and had the contest's first chances in the 12th minute. Sophomore Simen Hestnes had an attempt blocked before classmate Romario Guscott had a go but missed wide. Less than three minutes later, Albany took the lead as Keith Traut converted from close range.

The advantage for the home team grew to two goals in the 32nd minute as Nico Solabarrieta collected his own rebound off the post and registered his first goal of the season to put the score at 2-0. Charles was able to get one back for the Blackbirds right before halftime as he took a through ball from freshman Giuseppe Barone and cut LIU's deficit in half at 2-1.

In the second half, Albany re-established a two-goal cushion in the 53rd minute when Afonso Pinheiro tallied his fifth goal of the year. Barone had a quality chance to pull the Blackbirds closer in the 62nd minute but his shot in the box was pushed out of bounds by Lucas Vallilo for a corner kick. LIU Brooklyn continued to try and pull to within one but the Great Danes put the game away in the 76th minute on a goal by Daniel Krutzen.

LIU Brooklyn concludes its non-conference slate on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at NJIT, before its first Northeast Conference match of the season on Friday, Oct. 7 at Bryant.
