2016-17 LIU Brooklyn Women's Basketball Schedule
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - LIU Brooklyn head women's basketball coach Stephanie Oliver announced the program's 2016-17 schedule on Friday afternoon. The Blackbirds once again have 29 games ahead of them this season, including 13 games at home in Brooklyn. Twelve will take place at the Steinberg Wellness Center, with the contest against UMBC on December 21 taking place at Barclays Center, home of the NBA's Brooklyn Nets.
The Blackbirds open the season Saturday, November 12 at the Steinberg Wellness Center hosting Army. LIU will then follow that up three days later with another home game against George Mason. The first road trip of the season comes later that week, as the Blackbirds will travel to Columbus, Ohio, to take on The Ohio State University on Saturday, November 19.
Another road trip follows for the Blackbirds the following week, with LIU headed to Burlington, Vermont, to take part in the TD Bank Classic, hosted by the University of Vermont. LIU will take on the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to open the tournament on Friday, November 25, and will play either NJIT or the host Catamounts on Saturday, November 26.
The Blackbirds then return home for a final non-conference game at the Steinberg Wellness Center against Stony Brook on Sunday, December 4 at 2:00 p.m. A three-game road trip to conclude non-league action takes LIU to Seton Hall (December 7), Colgate (December 10) and Columbia (December 12), before LIU takes on UMBC at Barclays Center as part of a doubleheader with the men's team on December 21 beginning at 5:00 p.m.
Northeast Conference action begins in late December this year, and LIU will host the opening weekend in downtown Brooklyn. Mount St. Mary's and Bryant will come to the Steinberg Center for games on December 29 and 31, respectively. The Blackbirds will then hit the road for the Pennsylvania swing, playing at Saint Francis U. and Robert Morris on January 7 and 9.
The last home game of the season will be Saturday, February 18, when the Blackbirds host Sacred Heart University for Senior Day. LIU will wrap up the regular NEC season on the road, taking on St. Francis Brooklyn, Mount St. Mary's and Wagner College in the last week of February. The NEC Tournament is slated to begin Sunday, March 5, hosted by higher seeds throughout.
