BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn women's basketball team wraps up a two-game home stand Monday, January 16 as it hosts the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils at the Steinberg Wellness Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

  • The Blackbirds (2-14, 1-4 NEC) enter the contest looking to snap a four-game Northeast Conference losing streak. LIU lost a nail-bitter to St. Francis Brooklyn, 56-54, Saturday in the Battle of Brooklyn at the Steinberg Wellness Center. SFBK's Rachel Iozzia hit a three-pointer to put the Terriers ahead with under 10 seconds left, and LIU had a chance to win or send the game to OT, but failed to convert three free throws with .5 second left. The Blackbirds rebounded the third missed foul shot, but the put-back attempt, which went in, wasn't released before the buzzer sounded.
  • Senior guard Shanovia Dove scored a game-high 20 points. Senior guard Brianna Farris, who shot 4 of 6 from three, netted 12 points, and freshman forward Aja Boyd tallied 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
  • Dove leads the team averaging 14.5 points per game. The senior is ranked fifth in the NEC in scoring. Boyd is second on the team with 9.7 points per game and leads the team with 6.2 rebounds per contest.
  • Central Connecticut State University, which was picked seventh in the Northeast Conference's preseason poll, enters the game with a 6-10 overall record and a 5-0 mark in conference play.
  • The league-leading Blue Devils have won five straight games, and most recently defeated Fairleigh Dickinson, 68-49. Sophomore Andi Lydon scored a team-high 18 points. Senior Giocelis Reynoso scored 13 points, while sophomore Kiana Patterson registered 12 points in the win.
  • Senior Aleah Epps leads CCSU with 11.4 points per game, and Patterson is second on the team with 10.5 points per game.
