BRONX, N.Y. --- The LIU Brooklyn women's cross country team competed in the annual Metropolitan Championships Friday afternoon at Van Cortlandt Park, ending the race in tenth place overall with 309 points. The result is an improvement on the team's 2016 showing at the event, when the Blackbirds placed 12th with 328 points.
Senior
Adjovi Simpini was once again the team's top performance in the race, going from 76th last year to 51st this year with a time of 20:40.5. Freshman
Alyssa Frausto was six spots behind Simpini in 57th with a mark of 20:57.2.
LIU's remaining four runners each placed in the top 100 of the meet: junior
Liz Burton in 77th (21:48.5), junior
Zaahira Deboise in 91st (22:47.0), senior
Nerene Aberdeen in 93rd (22:54.3), and freshman
Stephanie Reyes in 96th (23:03.1).

LIU will take two weeks to prepare for the Northeast Conference Championships, which will take place on Saturday, October 28 at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, Conn.
