Game Highlights

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn field hockey team had four different player score Sunday afternoon on LIU Field, as the Blackbirds notched their second Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference win of the season, defeating Siena, 4-1. With the win, LIU moves to 2-2 in the MAAC, with two conference games left to play.

The two teams were evenly matched early in the game, going back and forth with shots that both teams defended. LIU would have several shots blocked, while Blackbird goalie Molly Jannell made three saves in the first ten minutes to keep the game scoreless.

The Blackbirds finally got on the board in the 26th minute, on one of the team's five penalty corners. After a Siena foul in the circle, LIU freshman Jenna Chrabolowski took the push. Sophomore Lydia Trout stopped the ball, and freshman Eveline Gielisse passed the ball to the right side of the circle, where classmate Eva Scholten was waiting. Scholten would hit it in from the top of the circle, putting LIU up, 1-0.

In the second half, it was Chrabolowski who would widen LIU's lead. The freshman had a shot off a rebound, with some help from sophomore Madi Cook, in a scramble in front of the net that resulted in a goal, and a 2-0 lead for the Blackbirds.

Seven minutes later, Gielisse would score on a penalty corner. Again, Chrabolowski pushed the ball and Trout stopped it. This time, Gielisse took the shot on her own, driving the ball from the top of the circle passed Siena's keeper to make it 3-0.

Two minutes later, the Saints would finally get on the board with a goal on a penalty corner, but momentum stayed firmly on LIU's side of the net, and the Blackbirds would score again quickly.

This time, it was sophomore Brooke McGinley would score, with help on a pass from Scholten, giving the Blackbirds the 4-1 lead.

From there, the Blackbirds were able to stay up, keeping Siena from coming back, and won their second MAAC game of the season, 4-1.
