Red Flash Saturday evening at DeGol Arena. Junior Viktoria Fink and sophomore Amanda Hubbard each recorded double-doubles, their ninth and fourth of the season, respectively. Fink tied junior Nina Petranovic for the team lead in kill with 14 and had 16 digs as well. Hubbard logged a new team season-high in assists with 43 and added 12 digs. Sophomore Natalia Rivera was one dig short of the match high with 33. With the victory, the Blackbirds haveĀ gone 12 matches without suffering losses in back-to-back matches. LIU found itself in the most closely contested match of the year - both teams combined for season highs in ties (39) and lead changes (19) - but were able to secure the team's fifth sweep in 13 victories. In the first, LIU set its biggest lead at three points (9-6) on a block by Katharina Krepper and Jovana Stekovic and matched it late (24-21) on an errant SFU serve. The Red Flash held the Blackbirds for three straight rallies by converting kills on each point (24-24) but two successful attacks by Petranovic neutralized the threat and gave LIU a 1-0 lead. The Blackbirds faced a pair of large deficits in the second - five points at 9-4 and three points at 18-15 - but would eventually square the set each time. Saint Francis went ahead 22-20 but LIU stole the set with a 5-0 closing run. The final set was a bit closer, with no team leading by more than two points during most of the action. The teams found themselves in a familiar position down the stretch - SFU leading 22-20 and the LIU scoring five consecutive points to end the match. NEXT UP LIU will host a pair of matches next weekend: Friday, October 27 at 6 p.m. against Central Connecticut and Saturday, October 28 at 4 p.m. versus Bryant.
