Women's Cross Country | Oct 28 | Cross Country Places Eighth At NEC Championships Story Links Results NEW BRITAIN, Conn. --- The LIU Brooklyn cross country team capped a year of improvements with its performance at the 2017 Northeast Conference Championships Saturday afternoon at Stanley Quarter Park. The Blackbirds finished the event in eighth place with 203 points, moving up two spots from its 2016 standing in the race. LIU was paced by graduate transfer Sarah Northup, who cracked the top 30 of the nearly 90-member field, taking 27th place with a time of 19:20.5. LIU's top three finishers - Northup, senior Adjovi Simpini and freshman Alyssa Frausto - all made the top 45 of the field, bettering Simpini's team-leading position (45th) from 2016. Simpini jumped 15 spots from last year, finishing 30th with a mark of 19:33.7 while Frausto was 42nd with a time of 19:57.6. Completing the Blackbird contingent was junior Liz Burton in 58th (20:41.6), freshman Ashton Burton in 69th (21:33.7), senior Nerene Aberdeen in 74th (22:21.2), junior Zaahira Deboise in 76th (22:33.7), and freshman Stephanie Reyes in 78th (22:52.1).
