KISSIMMEE, Fla. --- After a two-week respite, the LIU Brooklyn women's cross country team returned to action this weekend as the team took part in the 21st Annual Disney Cross Country Classic presented by New Balance at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The overall event is a favorite of numerous Colleges, High Schools, and Middle Schools from around the country.
The Blackbirds took part in the Women's Ursula Division race and finished in seventh place among the eight NCAA Division I schools in the competition. LIU scored 183 points and recorded a total time of 1:43.32.
Leading the way for the Blackbirds was graduate student Sarah Northup, who placed in the top 40 overall with the 36th-best time of 19:45.0. LIU's next four runners all ended up in the top 100 of the meet - senior Adjovi Simpini in 70th (20:35.0), junior Zaahira Deboise in 80th (20:51.5), freshman Ashton Burton in 86th (21:01.4), and fellow newcomer Alyssa Frausto in 97th (21:18.9).
Rounding out the Blackbirds that competed in the event were junior Liz Burton (21:59.5; 126th), freshman Nerene Aberdeen (22.19.2; 132nd) and freshman Stephanie Reyes (22.29.2; 142nd).

Championship season will begin for the Blackbirds when the squad competes at the Metropolitan Championship on Friday, October 13 at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
